On Monday February 17th please join in as I will be hosting the first of what we plan will be an annual event as part of the Coconut Grove Arts Festival. The “Norman Van Aken Chef’s Table” has been created as a new feature to the historic festival. In this inaugural year I’m very happy to have Chefs Allen Susser and Jeff McInnis each present a class of two of their amazing dishes with tastings for all attendees. The setting is intimate so that the teaching is impactful.
Allen Susser is the Culinary Director of the Cafés at Books & Books as well as being a James Beard Award winner. Like me Allen is one of the original “Mango Gang” Chefs who brought his vision for the cuisine we have all seen flower over the past decades. Additionally Allen has a new book out titled, “Green Fig and Lionfish”. It is a cookbook promoting sustainable Caribbean fishing for which Allen has been, along with his many other charitable works, a big proponent for. Allen will be doing a book signing after his class so you can get an autographed copy for your home.
Jeff McInnis is one of the younger stars of the Florida dining scene but has already made his name not only in Florida but in New York as well. He and his wife/partner Janine operate ‘Stiltsville Fish Bar’ in Miami Beach and also “Root and Bone” and “Mi’Italia Kitchen and Bar”, which are in South Miami. He is a charismatic ambassador for our ever evolving Florida cuisine.
I will be the finale presenter and after my class I will be signing my most recent cookbooks, “My Key West Kitchen” and also, “My Florida Kitchen”. Feel free to read my bio etc. here on my website and share this news with your friends. There are a limited number of tickets to the classes. Please go to the link to secure your seats. I look forward to seeing you in beautiful Coconut Grove!
