True confession. When I was going to grade school in Diamond Lake, Illinois, I ate a Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich every, single, day in our school lunchroom. By 7th grade it had become more of an act of completion. Some kids wanted perfect attendance. My goal was a perfect P.B & J. streak. It caused my best friend Wade to go crazy, which, of course, was a bonus rationale for my P.B. & J. zeal. The joys of those creamy, sticky, sugary, crunchy, homey wonderful Wonder Bread sandwiches were very special in my younger years. I’ve had a few since. I think it is clear from this show that my fascination of all manner of foods has branched out. Yet, when I’m interviewed one of the most common questions is, “What is one of the best things you’ve ever eaten?”……. I often answer, “a peanut butter and jelly sandwich”. P.B. & J’s for short.
Now it’s time to hit the ‘Listen on WLRN’ button at the top to hear the remainder of my show. ‘A Word On Food’ airs on WLRN every Saturday around 8:30 a.m. at 91.3 and also 91.5 on the radio. I want to thank so many of you who tell me in person how much you are enjoying the show!
