Google this woman’s amazing life for an example of one who has and continues to have an adventure filled life. She was an international movie star while still quite young and living in India, her native country. Then in her 30’s she began to write her cookbooks. Indian cuisine naturally was what she lead with.
In 2004, she was named an honorary Commander of the Order of the British Empire in recognition of her services to cultural relations between the United Kingdom, India and the United States, through her achievements in film, television and cookery.
I met her first by chance while going into a large nearly empty auditorium that would be the place for the James Beard Awards celebration later that evening. We met as she finished her short practice session and I was up next. Though she was a much bigger name in the world of cuisine she treated me as a noted colleague and I’ll never forget her graciousness.
