We returned to Key West to do a ‘pop up dinner’ recently. The venue is pretty spectacular. It takes me back to my first years in Key West when the shrimp boats were still anchored in the ‘Land’s End Marina’ behind what became The Half Shell Raw Bar. This time the boats are in a marina that sits on the waters off Stock Island, the Florida Key one island to the north. The dining room is just off the docks there. When we do one of those dinners we literally walk over to the boats and see what the fishing folks caught last night and brought ashore that very morning. The fish we serve for these dinners have never been in the back of a truck. Thus we leave the wording on the menu somewhat vague as we simply don’t know what we will serve until we are on the docks. I love that.
